GZ Tales: Percival's Tale Part 4

“Your gun going poltergeist on my bar was hard to believe. Try me.”

“I’m not from here.”

“I kind of gathered that, Hon. Unless you mean from another planet, that is.”

“No, not another planet. Listen, the last thing I remember was fighting in battle against the troops of Colonel Amon LeFey. There was a flash of light and I found myself here.”

“Are you trying to tell me you were in the real Civil War?”

“Yes. It was April 15, 1863. You speak as if the war was a very long time ago. How long?”

“It’s 2012.”

“The year?”

“Well, yes! How do you think you got here exactly?”

“Le Fey is a sorcerer. I’m afraid this is where my story becomes even harder to believe. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time. LeFey is sure to be here somewhere too. I have to find him. He has Excalibur.”

Vicky fell against the bar in wonder of the story. “Wait a minute. Excalibur wasn’t in the Civil War. Wasn’t that from the story of King Arthur or something?”

“We, descendants of the Knights of the Round Table, have been protecting the sword for generations. Under my Grandfather’s watch, the sword was taken. We have been pursuing it ever since.”

“So, you almost got to it and wound up here?” Vicky said it slowly as she tried to piece it together.

“I know. It’s impossible to believe.”

“Honey, you don’t know what kind of a world we live in now. I’ll get my things so we can get out of here.”

“I don’t understand. Really, if you could just tell me what direction my pistol was aiming, I’ll take my leave.”

“It was pointing South, but you’ll never make it dressed like that.” Vicky grabbed Percival by the arm and led him to the back door.  Just before she opened it, he pulled away.

“Le Fey is dangerous.”

“Hon, I’ve been waiting for something exciting to happen around here for far too long. Besides, you’re alone here. You need someone to help you. Now let’s get going!”

Seeing the argument as futile, Percival followed Vicky to the parking lot. She led him to the side of a dusty blue, two door car. Percival hesitated a few feet away.

“What’s wrong?” Vicky asked.

“A larger one of these tried to kill me today.”

“Oh, you were probably in front of it.”

“It’s like a bull?”

“No. It’s a car. We get inside of it and ride around places. It won’t attack you and they don’t move by themselves.”

Percival stepped closer and peered in the window.

“Amazing.”

Vicky opened the door for him. “You should try sitting in it.”

Percival climbed in and Vicky closed the door. As she walked around to the driver’s side, Percival was lost in wonder. He ran his fingers over the aged and cracked interior of her car. He tapped his fingers on the window and shifted back and forth in the seat. He had never experienced saddles like chairs before.

Vicky climbed in and pulled her keys out of her purse. She put the key to the ignition and paused in thought.

“Okay, this is going to make some noise. It won’t hurt us, I promise you.”

Even with her warning, the sudden roar of the engine made Percival jump. He reached out to the dashboard again and felt the tremble of the machine running. Vicky put the car in gear and slowly drove in order to avoid shocking him too much. Percival was in awe.

“Are there still horses?” Percival asked after a moment.

“Oh sure. People have them out in country. They don’t bring them into towns much anymore.”

“Ah. Well, I’m glad to hear there are still horses.”

Vicky could tell Percival missed what he knew as home. She changed the subject.

“So, your gun points toward the sword?”

“Yes. Since it pointed south, I will need to head that direction immediately.”

“You can’t just go stomping around south of here. That’s all Atchafalaya Basin out there. It’s all alligators and snakes.”

“Do you have a better suggestion?”

“I have an idea, but we’ll have to wait until morning.”

“Why?”

“Because that’s when the museum opens. Besides, we need to get you into different clothes. You attract way too much attention like that.”

After a few more minutes, Vicky stopped the car in front of a small house with a white wire fence across the front yard.

“It’s not much, but it’s home.” Vicky said. She led Percival inside quickly with concern for nosy neighbors. “Come on, Soldier, let’s get you inside.”

Percival took three steps into the little house and stood staring. Vicki’s home was not luxurious by any means. It was quite plain, but Percival had never seen the like of it. The cushioned furniture, ceiling fans, and even the style of the walls were alien. Vicki disappeared into another room as Percival ran his hands across the cushions of the sofa. He pressed down on them, marveling at how soft they were. Vicki came out, saw him and shook her head.

“It’s like you were just born or something.” She took his arm and led him to the bathroom. She put some clothes in his hands.  “They didn’t have plumbing in your time, I’m sure. I’ll show you how to work the shower, but you undress on your own.”

Percival stood in the shower for a long time, letting the water cascade over him. He knew Vicki was right. This world was so far beyond him in all its wonders. He worried he may never catch up. The sights of the day spun with chaos in his mind. The soothing shower did little to ease the troublesome thoughts.

Percival came out of the bathroom in a black ‘rock and roll’ t-shirt, blue jeans and white socks. Yet another amazing advancement of the future; comfortable clothing, put his stiff wool uniform to shame. Percival sat down on the sofa and gazed around the room some more.

“Your time is so incredible,” he said.

“Oh no. I have incredible right here.” Vicki held up the television remote control.

When the screen flickered to life, Percival completely lost his breath. He stared wide eyed at the talking box with moving pictures. Vicki didn’t want to say so, but she enjoyed showing him the technologies of the age, just to see the look on his face. Percival watched late into the night until he passed out from fatigue.

When the morning sun shined on his face through the window, Percival sat bolt upright. A quick glance of his surroundings told him it was not a dream.

“Hey, you’re awake,” Vicki said, walking in with a plate of sausage and eggs. “After you eat we can get going. The museum is open.”

“How long have I slept?”

“It’s almost noon. I bundled up your sword and gun in the trunk of the car and I sprayed your boots. Those things stunk to high Heaven.”

Percival sniffed at the boots as he chewed a mouthful of food. “There is perfume in my boots?”

“Not exactly,” Vicki said. “Don’t worry, no one will notice.”

After swallowing his breakfast nearly whole, Percival pulled on his boots so they could leave. Vicki watched with interest but had to intervene.

“Don’t tuck your pants into the boots, Hon. People don’t do that anymore.”

“Oh. Well, alright.” Percival stood up and looked over himself. “Will I fit in?”

“Well enough. Let’s go.”

Galaxy Zento News January

There certainly is a lot going on with the GZ project.  We’ve come a long way and there’s way more to do yet! But how far have we come now? Well, here are the stats:

Facebook: (as of this update) LINK
67 Likes
258 photos (includes 11 pics of the legendary table and 61 photos of the custom miniatures; the other 186 are all illustrations)
Photos also include the work of 3 guest artists and 2 requests.

DeviantArt: LINK
20 Watchers (that’s kind of like “likes” on FB)
223 of the same pics posted (not as many of the custom miniatures posted)
1759 page views in 2 months
3 guest artists are from DeviantArt
All of the in color work is available for purchase in all sorts of ways through DA. You can get photo prints, post cards, mouse pads, magnets, mugs and more.  Other venues are being considered as well.

Blogspot:
32 posts
2 followers (that’s like watchers and likes) though I know many more are reading and viewing than that.

Miscellaneous:
Anti-bullying poster that was posted with one online project and donated to my son’s elementary school. You can see me with my son’s Principal in the photo above.
Autism education poster shared on internet.

Mixed in with all of that are lots of awesome comments from all of you. Your support has been great and I thank you!

What I’m doing now: Currently I’m sending two GZ short stories to the Writer’s Journal fiction contest. Results will be posted when we get them a couple months or so.  I’ve finally ironed out the query letter (these things are not easy) and I’m sorting through a list of agents. Time to launch query letters!  I have a list of illustrations and I’m working through those as I go. As a special project for Black History Month, I plan to do some of my black characters. I’ve been asked a few times if I have them and yes I do.
Also on my artwork, I’m practicing more use of the digital program to touch up my drawings and get them into a cleaner black and white digital look before I color them in. You can see the results. Speaking of this, it’s time for…

SPECIAL PROJECTS:  I have a few meant to create interaction with GZ for many and any of you out there. Check these out.
Guest Artist: Always open and ready to challenge you. All you have to do is draw any of my characters in any medium you choose (from crayons to oil paints) and you’ll be featured on all mediums as a guest artist. If you are a professional or striving as such, I’ll make sure people know where to find out more about you. I only ask that there are no adult themes.  By posting all the digital black and whites, there’s even an opportunity for you colorists out there.  You can even print out a black and white from Deviant Art, color it, scan it and send it. It’s that easy so have fun!  For people with their own OC’s you can do your characters with mine and I’ll return the favor. Or draw one of mine and I’ll draw one of yours.

Spotlight Requests: Want to know more about one of my characters? Let me know and I’ll do a Spotlight Article in this blog! If I’ve already done it, I’ll get you the link.

Art Requests: I’ve already done Jojo versus Monolith and Durgan against a horde of demons. What would you like to see? Shoot me your request and I’ll work it into the schedule and see what I can do.

Characters: Recently, I was talking with CJ from DeviantArt and discussed the role playing game. CJ asked if he could roll up a character and so, after digging some stuff out of storage, I said okay. More on his character later. What I am considering is the possibility that others may have a character rolled up in the GZ universe.  I don’t have a lot of time for that right now, but it’s a consideration. Of course, all characters made for GZ are property of GZ and for entertainment purposes only.  Have to post that legalese ya know.  More on this as ideas develop.

BACK BURNER: The website is currently on the back burner. Just haven’t been able arrange the funds to launch it. It’s not cancelled, just has to wait until it can be paid for. Until then, there’s plenty of action going on.

So that’s the news for now. I hope you’ll continue to watch and be involved. As new stuff happens, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Making Heroes 2: PAC

So, my first team of heroes is what I said I would tell you about. I called these guys PAC and they were involved in some of my first attempts at novel writing. I have a complete book with them in it, but that's for another time. As always, you can click on pics for larger view. Enjoy!

PAC originally stood for Parahumans Against Crime but that was found to be, frankly, lame. So it now stands for Parahuman Activity Commission. They are meant to deal with threats that standard agencies can't.

So who are they?

They are led by Lombard Ogleson (Sandstorm) who is a weather and elemental shape changer. Not only can he control weather and elements, he can become them. He served in the CIA seeking MIA in Vietnam and no one knows for sure exactly how old he is. There's more bio on the Wiki pages.

His protege since before joining the team, and best friend, is Scott McCross (Electrode). He's also called the Nuclear-electric man. Thanks to being caught in a terrorist bomb plot at an experimental energy facility, he has the power to move at double the speed of light. He can throw high powered lightning bolts that can crack titanium steel or power a small city at full strength.

They brought the loner, Larry Peters (Blacktide) into the team. Larry can disintegrate any solid objects he comes across. He can't stop liquids or gasses. He has an aura around his body that effectively protects him from things like bullets but may endanger anyone who tries to touch him. He can also cause objects to temporarily implode, but seldom uses this power.

This is Nyhtwulf, a Twilie dimension demon who served the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as a butler. He's naturally intangible (ghosts through solid objects) and can redirect energy beams that hit him. He's also a brain wave tracker. He can track anyone he's met by their brain wave emissions. He can even do this world wide. As if that weren't enough fun, whenever he passes through a person he partially scrambles their life force, brain waves, or both. He helps Larry control his powers via a psychic link. That's another story.

Jason Marigold (Atomizer) was one of the recruiters for the team. Jason's an FBI agent who can cause multiple scale atomic explosions from inanimate objects. The scale is something he can control and his teammates are very thankful for that. He joined the team with his partner, Ray Redeagle.

Agent Redeagle is an Amercian Indian with powers of several animals. He has heightened senses, telescopic eyesight, super strength, agility, doubled reflex speed, and can move in absolute silence. He's also an accomplished martial artist and military combatant.

Then there's Christine McDonald of the CIA. She's a telekinetic who's often finding inventive ways to use her power. She once put a telekinetic barrier around a gangster thugs head and removed the oxygen to make a point.

Finally, Galose, the Cyborian, joined the team at a later date. He serves as an Ambassador of his race and helps the team with more extreme missions. He's not always around on Earth, but easily reached with a signal device. Cyborians are a race of dimensional scientists who are all bonded with multi-dimensional combat armor. They do this because their race was nearly wiped out (another story). The armor has thousands of on board computers and is loaded with high tech weaponry. Weapons extend from dimensional pockets located all over the armor. Going into what Cyborians can do will take a whole other blog post.

Anyway, this was my first team of heroes ever made. I'm doing short stories on some of them and hopefully you will get to hear more about them soon.

Be sure to come to my Facebook Fan page and hit the LIKE button. Follow my blog and check me out at Deviantart.

Finally, I support autism education and awareness. Autism is a real condition that affects social interaction and sensory issues. Still, it's even more complicated than that. Do you know and understand someone with autism? I do. It's me and my son. Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Galaxy Zento

Hello and welcome to my new blog and first post on my fantasy universe. This has been a long time coming. Zento means "the journey ahead" and I do hope you will join me for this wonderful and exciting journey.

Zento is a fantasy/hero/sci fi universe that boasts over 200 alien races and over 400 characters. I've been building on it and working on it since I was a kid. Now that books are being completed, I feel it's time to start sharing.

Not only am I the writer and creator of Zento, I'm the sole illustrator (for now) so all the pictures you will see right now are by me.

What you can expect upcoming: Information on the background of Zento that you won't see anywhere else; news on the upcoming website; sample chapters; artwork and even challenges directed right at you. Also coming up very soon will be the Facebook fan page. On that page you will see lots of artwork with names and a tidbit of info. You won't get the full bios on these characters until the website, but don't worry, I'll keep you posted!

As I circulate this, first I will send to friends and family and post on my Facebook page. I will also post this in a couple of interesting areas. I will put this in the autism groups that I am part of for two reasons. Reason one is that I have a mild form of autism. Reason two is that the Zento Universe will also support autism education. It's our way of giving back to a community that needs it. No, I'm not talking about money or donations. It's just what I stand for, therefore so does Galaxy Zento.

I will also post this on at least one Heroclix forum because I made custom heroclix of my characters for my own use (not to sell) and I hope to share those soon too.

So stay tuned! There's much more information to come on what Zento is and how it came to be. No doubt you will find it quite entertaining how a universe in a kids head came to this.
